Mentor Program

WHAT ARE COMPASSIONATE MENTORS?

Mentors are volunteers who work with people one-on-one as they transition from at least 10 years of confinement into the free world. As guides, mentors help newly released persons orient themselves to the world as it exists today.

who is eligible for mentoring?

Those being mentored should have served a prison term of at least 10 years and are not facing further confinement for at least 5 years after their release.

what do compassionate mentors do?

The mentoring process begins prior to the client’s release from prison. Upon matching with a mentor, the client will set out to establish a series of attainable goals for the near term after release. The mentor will help with setting and achieving these goals.

When the client is released from prison, the mentor will be in regular contact with them about immediate needs like housing and transportation. When possible, CWFA will help the client with these needs. The mentor will also assist the client in securing what they’ll need for a successful life in the free world, especially:

  • Bank account

  • Social Security card

  • Drivers License/Government-issued ID

  • Restoration of voting rights

  • Draft waiver (if necessary)

  • Educational opportunities/applications

  • Resume building
